The National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR) located in Warsaw is the implementing agency of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. It was established in 2007. The activity of the Centre is funded by the National Treasury and the European Union. The Centre’s total budget in 2014 amounts to EUR 1.27 billion. Last year the Centre awarded 844 grants in the total amount of EUR 880 million. Among the tasks of the National Centre for Research and Development are support of commercialization and other forms of transfer of scientific research results, management of applied research programmes, the performance of national security and defence projects. The National Centre for Research and Development is currently engaged in the implementation of over 4,000 projects. It is also a partner in over 30 international initiatives, including ERA-Nets and ERA-Nets+, Joint Programming Initiatives and bilateral programmes.
